Ashcrole
The business is influence, conducted in rooms at the Forge instead of at Reedhead, and it has been conducted there for a very long time. Ashcrole also holds agency charters.
The line between dragon and mortal is where Ashcrole draws it. Its peers are the other Wrights, everyone at Reedhead is a subject or a client, and the arrangement is set out plainly in the house's own charters. The tradition is primal: pasture, thin settlement, and law kept by memory. Its adherence to the Accords is the loosest in the ring. The house also carries An arcane establishment, of long standing and no goodwill toward the primal side. Both are indispensable, so neither has been suppressed.
The holding
Shirasu — the hall that appears for unnamed principals
Shell ridge behind mangrove and shifting sandbar: agency hall, reed landings, boat approach only.
Four feet of shell ridge behind mangrove is all the dry ground here, banked up over centuries on the outer Yatsuhoshi Coast, with a sandbar in front that moves twice a decade. The hall runs the length of the ridge, timber laid on shell, reed landings on the lee side and no road of any kind, so everything comes in by boat at half tide. Fresh water and grain arrive by boat. The fishing families in the mangrove hold nothing and appear in no court roll; Kazenokami's bluff is a day and a half up the fen channel, Hanezaki and the toll pier four days off.
Connections
The hall's appearances have not yet required an open-court statement of who pays.
Allies takes this house’s side 4
Sumizuki 35 Sumizuki pays Ashcrole to accept and answer the court summonses it refuses to accept itself. The fee is two hundred barrels of salted fish a year, paid in fish and not in coin.
Lysathiel 56 Ashcrole's money comes through a broker at Serathorne, and Lysathiel's name is on none of the paperwork. It has funded the hall for eleven years.
Drennhold 64 Drennhold pays Ashcrole to put its name on Drennhold's annual boundary complaint, so the paperwork arrives from a coastal address instead of a dwarf gate. Ashcrole has fronted the case for eleven years and is paid by someone whose name is not on it.
Verrigan 75 Verrigan holds Ashcrole's client money and takes a fifth for standing between the agency and whoever is really paying. The ledger is kept in a foreign form at a rented wharf two cells away.
Neutral trades, and no more than that 2
Ordwaine 18 Ashcrole's boats fill thirty water casks a week at Ordwaine's spring, nothing on its own shell ridge being drinkable. That spring is the only drinkable water within reach of the ridge.
Emberlin 52 Two hundred koku of rice a year arrive by boat, nothing growing on a shell ridge behind a mangrove. It is everything the hall eats.

The hall's appearances have not yet required an open-court statement of who pays. Shirasu goes against Serathorne in the double-toll suit for a client it declines to name, sits as named principal in Drennhold's annual filing against the Reach water records office so the paper leaves a coast address, and receives the summonses Sumizuki will not accept on a beacon rock. Pleadings are drafted at Vaeloren, the retainer account is carried on Verrigan's ledger at Aurelwharf for a fifth, and no Amaseki court has ordered that ledger produced. Emberlin's rice came in short two seasons running with a note about the sandbar and was paid for in full both times. The hall takes retainers from receiverships with no living names at the ordinary rate, which the free-port bar has noticed.

Ashcrole appears against Serathorne in the double-toll suit for a client it declines to name, and the pleadings are drafted at Talionwe and paid for through a counting house at Verrigan. Serathorne's proctors have asked four times who is behind it and been told the question is not properly before the court.
-
Sumizuki retains Ashcrole's hall to receive and answer the summonses it declines to accept on the beacon rock. The retainer runs to two hundred barrels of salted bonito a year, paid in fish and not in coin.
-
Drennhold retains the agency hall at Ashcrole to stand as named principal in the annual filing about the underground passage boundary against the Reach water records office, so the paper leaves a coast address rather than a gate number. Ashcrole has appeared in the matter for eleven years and its fee comes from a name that does not appear on the filing.
-
Rice for the agency hall comes to the reed landings by boat, two hundred koku a year, since nothing on a shell ridge behind a mangrove will grow it. The last two seasons arrived short with a note about the sandbar, and Ashcrole paid in full both times without asking for the note to be explained.
-
Ashcrole's agency hall's retainers are funded through a Serathorne bill-broker and Lysathiel appears nowhere in the retainer. The free-port bar has assumed for eleven years that Lysathiel is the money behind it and cannot prove so.
-
Ashcrole's boats fill thirty casks a week at Ordwaine's causeway spring, there being nothing on the shell ridge fit to drink. Ordwaine takes the fee in certified transcripts of the harbour court's list, which the archive then sells on, and Ashcrole's clients would rather it did not.
-
Verrigan carries Ashcrole's retainer account and takes a fifth for standing between the agency and whoever is paying it. The ledger is kept in Corvantine form at a leased wharf two cells away, and no Amaseki court has yet ordered it produced.
