Gundvarr
Grain and herds make up the tax base. The work is plain and the first thing burned in any war that reaches Anvil Stair. An order of its own serves Gundvarr.
Gundvarr is Kinsworn. It keeps dwarf inheritance law over its own succession and dwarf gods over its own oaths, and the Forge treats both as facts about the house rather than as affectations. The tradition is arcane, which at Anvil Stair means a college, an archive and a filing habit. It wrote the case law the Accords are now read through.
The holding
the Seventh Gate Fields — the granary that pays tribute uphill
Loam and oat strips on the river terrace, a walled dwarf granary compound, cart weighing yard
A walled compound stands at the lip of the Emberrun terrace, granary, chapel and cellars behind one gate, and the oat and hard-wheat strips run open across the loam behind it because the survey will not license a wall longer than the compound already has. The terrace is good ground, cut when the river ran higher, and the local tillage follows a dwarf calendar, unlike the surrounding Aurelmarch fields. The cart weighing yard sits out on the road above Quellborne's gravel gravel banks, the Forge road and the Anvil Stair beyond it climb north past three tolls, and Sekhemra's iron furnace smoke stands up east at the spine foot.

Neutral trades, and no more than that 8
Ashinoha 03 Four hundred hundredweight of oats and horse fodder come down from Gundvarr each year for the iron road. The two houses use different weights and different coin, and have split the difference every year for sixty.
Stonewrit 10 All of Stonewrit's bread, about 900 hundredweight of grain, is hauled up the stair from Gundvarr between April and October, half of it paid for in embassy lodging. Gundvarr has asked four times to have the account settled in metal.
Sorrenmark 14 Sorrenmark's camp protects Gundvarr's granary, and Gundvarr pays in 1,200 hundredweight of oats rather than coin. Gundvarr keeps no soldiers of its own.
Vantrose 28 Vantrose lends Gundvarr 800 crowns every March against the standing oat crop. A wet August in those fields is felt in Vantrose's vault before it is felt anywhere else.
Thurmgrim 29 Gundvarr sells Thurmgrim five hundred quarters of oats a year, cash at the gate before the wagons move. Its agent writes the reason down every autumn: a house with no living members cannot be sued, only inherited from.
Karagunn 34 Gundvarr owes Karagunn tribute and carries 600 hundredweight of crop up the stair every autumn at its own cost, past three tolls charging full rate. Karagunn counts it against what Gundvarr owes and has refused for nine years to say what the balance now stands at.
Ashgrave 46 Ashgrave's four members and thirty hired clerks eat Gundvarr's grain, sent in one system of weights and converted at the gate into another at a rate Ashgrave has never accepted. It pays the difference and lodges a formal protest with its own record office every quarter.
Shizuhana 51 Shizuhana's counting house and its forty staff eat Gundvarr's grain, and since Shizuhana's roll closed the granary has sold to it for cash at the gate and nothing on credit. Shizuhana pays and records every transaction.

Oats leave the weighing yard under contract before they are cut. Five hundred quarters go to Thurmgrim's Greyseam for cash at the yard before the wagons move, and Gundvarr's factor writes the reason down every autumn: a hold with no living name cannot be sued in clan law, only inherited from. Stonewrit's Nine Courses takes nine hundred hundredweight up the cut stair between April and October and settles half of it in embassy lodging; the granary has asked four times to have that account struck in metal and cut, and been sent paper four times. Six hundred hundredweight go up the Anvil Stair each autumn as gate tribute, carried at the granary's own cost past three tolls at full rate, and Karagunn has declined for nine years to state the gate course.

Stonewrit buys its whole bread ration off Gundvarr, some 900 hundredweight of oats and hard wheat hauled up the cut stair between April and October, and settles half of it in embassy lodging rather than coin. Gundvarr has asked four times to have the account struck in metal and cut, and Stonewrit's clerks keep sending paper.
-
Gundvarr answers to the Seventh Gate and sends a tenth of Quellborne's crop up the Anvil Stair each autumn as gate tribute, 600 hundredweight carried at its own cost past three tolls that stand at full rate. Karagunn takes the tribute, counts it against the granary's gate course, and has declined for nine years to say what the count now stands at.
-
Four names and thirty hired clerks eat out of Ashgrave's yard, all of it Gundvarr grain sent up on the Corvantine hundredweight and converted at the bar to the dwarven weight at a rate Ashgrave has never accepted. The yard pays the difference and lodges a note of protest with its own records office each quarter.
-
Sekhemra takes 500 hundredweight of oats and the whole of Gundvarr's chaff each October for its horse lines, and the two houses have shared a weighbridge since 806. Sekhemra settles in bar iron at Vurrgast's price, which suits the granary and irritates everyone who wanted the crop sold for coin.
-
The counting-house and its staff of forty eat Gundvarr grain, and since the roll closed the granary has sold to Shizuhana for cash at the gate and nothing on account. Shizuhana pays and posts the transaction, which is more than two warm houses at Quellborne manage.

Gundvarr's sell Thurmgrim's five hundred quarters of oats a year, cash at the weighing yard before the wagons move. Gundvarr's factor puts the reason in writing every autumn: a hold with no living name cannot be sued in clan law, only inherited from.
-
Oats and cart-horse fodder for the iron road come down from Gundvarr, four hundred hundredweight a year. It is weighed on a Kazdrunn hundredweight and paid for in koku, and since neither house will concede whose measure governs, the difference has been split every year for sixty.
-
Sorrenmark's camp at the road fork covers Gundvarr, which pays for the cover in 1,200 hundredweight of oats delivered to the remount pastures rather than in coin. The granary would rather have its own men on the terrace and cannot get the survey to license a wall longer than the compound it already has.

Vantrose advances Gundvarr 800 crowns each March against the standing oat crop at a tenth, secured since 815 on the weighing-yard receipts. A wet August above Quellborne is felt in the Milestone Fee vault before it is felt in the fields.
-
Quellborne holds the gravel gravel banks and Gundvarr holds the cart weighing yard on the road above them, and the porterage schedule was revised in 818 without the wharves hearing of it until the first pack train refused to load. Every Aurelmarch shipper can recite what porterage cost before the revision, and all of them still ship.
Corn factors at Bridgefoot say the granary lends seed further down the Solmarch than a Standard holding reaches, and that the receipts are kept somewhere up the stair. Said in the Aurelmarch
