Shizuhana
Shizuhana deals in secrets. Informants, cults, and debts of the non-financial kind make up the trade. Shizuhana also lends.
The Wright of Shizuhana is a kitsune first. It sits at its own people's tables, marries into them where the law allows, and takes an insult to them as an insult. The tradition is divine. Its orders hold one moral extreme or the other, and both wings read the Accords as a compromise, disagreeing only about what with.
The holding
the Hoshimura Landing — the counting-house that still posts its ledgers
Timber landing on the Emberrun two days below Bridgefoot, walled counting-house, shrine bridge, ledgers posted
Two days below Bridgefoot the Emberrun straightens and deepens enough for barges to lie alongside, and the landing there is timber on driven piles with a stone-faced approach off the towpath. The counting-house behind it is walled and roofed in the coast manner, and the current page of its ledgers is posted at the shrine bridge each month for the barge masters to read on the way down. The bank is Aurelmarch clay that grows willow and nothing the survey has troubled to rate. Quellborne's transfer sheds are in sight upstream, the Aurel Wood ditch is the next holding west, and every hull bound for the Yatsuhoshi Coast passes the piles.
Connections
Forty clerks and a shrine keeper still work the landing, still discount Emberrun barge bills at seven per cent, and still post the month's page at the bridge, and nothing at Inaribashi has been covered by Clause I since the last name went out of the house.
Allies takes this house’s side 0
No house on the ring takes this one’s side.
Neutral trades, and no more than that 2
Gundvarr 44 Shizuhana's counting house and its forty staff eat Gundvarr's grain, and since Shizuhana's roll closed the granary has sold to it for cash at the gate and nothing on credit. Shizuhana pays and records every transaction.
Serathorne 63 Shizuhana still buys up barge bills and posts its ledger publicly, and Serathorne's customs yard still honours the paper. Since the house died out the yard has taken a fifth of each bill in cash and has given no reason for the change.
Enemies has something open against it 3
Yatagaru 33 Yatagaru has three times offered to buy Shizuhana's whole loan book for a fraction of its value, and each offer came back sealed by an office with no name under it. It now buys the debts one at a time off the barge captains, for even less.
Lysathiel 56 Lysathiel bought Shizuhana's debts at two-fifths of their value the year the house died out, holds first claim on its landing fees, and has taken over the informant network Shizuhana ran, paying the same men on the same days. Shizuhana's ledgers still record those payments as its own.
Sarventhal 69 Sarventhal is owed 12,000 silver by Shizuhana and sends a clerk down every third year to have the debt read out at the gate. Shizuhana's books are still kept monthly by staff nobody has authority over, and Sarventhal copies them because they are the only account of that landing anyone can get.

Forty clerks and a shrine keeper still work the landing, still discount Emberrun barge bills at seven per cent, and still post the month's page at the bridge, and nothing at Inaribashi has been covered by Clause I since the last name went out of the house. The seals go on in the order the office has always used, with no name left to seal above them. Serathorne's customs yard honours the paper and has taken a fifth of each bill in cash since the roll closed, giving no reason for the change. Lysathiel bought the landing's Emberrun paper at forty in the hundred that year, holds first claim on the dues, and sends a clerk from Nimrothel each quarter to find out who is answering the door and under what authority.

Yatagaru has offered three times for the whole Shizuhana loan book at eleven coppers for each gold coin of face value, and each offer came back sealed by an office with no name under it. Yatagaru's house now buys the bills singly off the barge masters at nine, and nothing at the landing has been said against it.

The counting-house and its staff of forty eat Gundvarr grain, and since the roll closed the granary has sold to Shizuhana for cash at the gate and nothing on account. Shizuhana pays and posts the transaction, which is more than two warm houses at Quellborne manage.

Lysathiel has taken over the Emberrun informant lines Shizuhana ran before the roll closed, paying the same men out of Lysathiel on the same quarter days. Shizuhana's ledgers still enter the payments as outgoing, which is either a clerk's habit or a claim, and Lysathiel has left the question alone.
Lysathiel bought Shizuhana's Emberrun paper at forty in the hundred the year that plate went cold, and holds first claim on the landing dues. A clerk goes up from Lysathiel every quarter to establish who is still answering the door at Shizuhana and on whose authority.

Sarventhal holds a 12,000-silver bond of Shizuhana's drawn before the last name went out of the house, and sends a clerk down the north road every third year to have it read at the gate. The ledgers at Shizuhana are still posted monthly by staff nobody has authority over, and Sarventhal copies them because they are the only account of the Emberrun landing anyone can obtain.
Barge masters below Bridgefoot say the ledgers are posted by staff somebody is still paying, and none of them will guess out loud who that is. Said in the Aurelmarch

Arms
A white camellia blooming on the rail of a red bridge, a fox mask lying face-down beside it, a string of coins in the still water below.
Or, party per pale by a line Gules, an eye and a fox's mask Gules; in base a key Gules; a bordure of cold iron. (Plate 51; no living name.)
The field colour is the house's tradition and the bound edge is the state of its plate, and neither is the house's to choose.
