Erevanth
The house is a lender of long standing. Its book runs to sovereign borrowers, its assessments are posted twice a year, and its rate is the one the assize quotes. Erevanth also works metal.
Erevanth calls its position Contemporary. It treats its relationship with elves as one between contemporaries, a distinction it has defended at the Forge since the signing. Its institutions are divine. They hold both moral extremes and regard the middle as a failure of nerve; the tradition signed last and grudgingly.
The holding
Thornwater — the orchard older than the water records office
Orchard and foundry yard on Pardah gravel, walled, on a charter older than the water records office
Thornwater sits on Pardah gravel in the badlands belt where the Reach mountains give out, walled to twelve feet round orchard and foundry yard. Apple, quince and a hard pear come off ground unsuited to other crops, watered from the seventh surface opening under a draw the records office has not limited. The foundry stands at the downwind end with the charcoal stacks behind it, since nothing on the gravel burns and the cordwood comes off the Matsugane slides. One road serves the orchard and meets the ridge track east of the wall; the records office stair is two days north, the coast yards the same distance past the bluffs.
Connections
The foundry casts cistern gates, sluice plates and pump barrels to the records office's own patterns, forty tons a year, and the loan book is secured on water.
Allies takes this house’s side 5
Kurohane 20 Erevanth's guards are Kurohane's men on a standing contract of 300 crowns a year, and what Erevanth buys is that nothing has come down off the cliffs in ninety years. Kurohane also sends 1,800 cords of charcoal a year for the foundry, and the ash goes back up the ridge as orchard fertiliser.
Prospern 36 Prospern sells Erevanth the lists of who has stopped paying on the northern work contracts, which is how a creditor four cells away hears about a default before the assembly does. Those lists are most of what Prospern sells.
Aelvarion 54 Flour, dried apple and cider come down the river from Erevanth under an order older than the water office itself. Aelvarion pays by moving Erevanth up the list of who gets an audience first.
Vorlaine 68 Erevanth lends against water shares where no other house will, and holds a third of Vorlaine's water as security on 1,900 crowns advanced in 816. Its charter is older than the water office, so a lender there can take a cistern and expect to keep it.
Ythelas 77 The two keep a shared file at the Forge on charters that were confirmed rather than granted, and argue their cases out of the same set of precedents. Neither has ever appeared in court for the other.

The foundry casts cistern gates, sluice plates and pump barrels to the records office's own patterns, forty tons a year, and the loan book is secured on water. A third of Vorlaine's fourth-surface opening draw stands against 1,900 crowns advanced in 816, which no Corvantine lender would take, and a charter older than the records office is the reason a lender here can hold a cistern at all. Fifteen names keep the orchard rite and a twelfth-month washing at the burial ground, neither of which the records office will enter as a water charge, and the foundry charcoal is bought from Kurohane, who also holds the walls for 300 crowns a year. Ravenscarp files against the charter each spring and orders castings in the same letter, and the clerks file both under one heading.

Erevanth lends against Reach water shares where no Corvantine house will, and holds a third of Vorlaine's fourth-surface opening draw as security on 1,900 crowns advanced in 816. Erevanth's charter is older than the records office, which is the only reason a lender can take a cistern and expect to keep it.
-
Erevanth's foundry casts the records office's cistern gates, sluice plates and pump barrels, forty tons a year to the Natron Shelves' own patterns. Ravenscarp is suing the charter and buying the castings in the same season, and treats the two as unrelated matters.
Erevanth's charter predates the water records office, and Ravenscarp has spent nine years trying to have it read as a grant the records office confirmed rather than a right standing outside it. Erevanth answers each filing in the same four lines and offers no terms, because the orchard's draw is the one call on the seventh surface opening the records office cannot cap.
-
Erevanth and Ythelas keep a joint file at the Forge on charters confirmed rather than granted, and the Reach arguments are pleaded out of the oak precedents on the Aurelmarch ridge. Neither has ever appeared for the other, on the view that a shared brief is worth more than a shared advocate.
-
Flour, dried apple and cider come down the Pardah from Erevanth under a standing order older than the water records office. Aelvarion pays by moving Erevanth up the Yatsuhoshi audience list, an accommodation the two houses arranged between themselves and neither entered on the coast roll.
-
Erevanth's walls are twelve feet and its watch is Kurohane's, on a standing contract of 300 crowns a year covering the ridge track and the orchard road. What Erevanth buys is that nothing has come down off the Matsugane bluffs onto the Pardah gravel in ninety years, and both houses enter the contract as insurance.
The foundry's charcoal comes off Kurohane's slides, 1,800 cords a year burned on Pardah gravel because nothing grows on it, and the ash goes back up the ridge as orchard dressing. The ash is not mentioned in the contract.
Factors at the coast yards price Thornwater's paper as though the orchard secured rather more than the records office allows it to draw. Said in Pardah Reach

A willow bending over a stone mint-press, silver coins scattered among its roots like fallen leaves.
Or, a key and a mullet Gules, borne side by side, equal, and undivided; in base a hammer Gules; a bordure of warm iron. (Plate 49; fifteen living names.)
