Grivane

Crowmarsh, the Storvald Gulf · Warm iron · 25 living names

The furnaces run on standing orders. Grivane's books are committed three seasons ahead of the year they are written in, and a bad season at Crowmarsh is felt in four other countries. Grivane keeps land under cultivation.

The line between dragon and mortal is where Grivane draws it. Its peers are the other Wrights, everyone at Crowmarsh is a subject or a client, and the arrangement is set out plainly in the house's own charters. Arcane institutions govern here. The house keeps its precedents in order, and its objections at the Forge arrive in writing before they arrive in person. The house also carries A primal establishment, of long standing and no goodwill toward the arcane side. Both are indispensable, so neither has been suppressed.

Slag banks and sulphur benches on tundra edge; pasture behind, cart road to the gulf wharves

Slag banks and sulphur benches run along the tundra edge here, with pasture behind them good enough to keep a smelter's households in mutton through a closed winter. The workings are shallow and every stick of fuel is imported, since nothing on this shore of the Storvald Gulf grows a tree worth cutting. One cart road goes down to the wharves at Nine Moorings, and the sulphur road climbs the other way past the watch-forts at Oathcairn to the pilgrim track. Kettlemouth harbour is four days west, the canyon rim of the Sunjara Upland five days east, and the tundra between carries little but muster stations.

The full account — 7 houses, 8 arrangements

The smelter runs on standing orders, and the factor at the Sixth Stage holds one instructing him to take Corvane's silver at Corvane's own conversion for harness ironwork and two siege carriages a year. Six hundred hundredweight of Anvil Stair pig comes down the coast road from Karagunn's gate at Sleetgate, weighed on the Kazdrunn hundredweight and paid on the Falkvald, and the difference is argued each spring and settled at whatever the furnaces need. Bar leaves under the Kilngate die because no gulf merchant will take another mark on a Falkvald wharf, at the eight-copper fee into an account opened in 698 and still open. Rimhook's muster company stands on letters kept at Brimholt and lodged nowhere, and Faenlorn's lien on the slag revenue is drawn in an elven form no assembly has been asked to read.

  • out · in 76 Nuirendil licence · carriage

Nuirendil's lease runs one sailing season at a time and it is Grivane's to renew, which it does at the assembly where its own cargo is the largest item on Nuirendil's toll roll. Nothing beyond the year in hand exists in writing.

Every hundredweight of Grivane sulphur and bar that crosses from the cart road to a hull at Nuirendil pays eleven coppers in wharf fees per hundredweight, a rate posted in 794 and unaltered since. Grivane has had the schedule read out at the assembly four times, and the reading has been the whole of the result.

  • out 38 Corvane ore

Grivane sends harness ironwork and two siege carriages a year down the cavern roads to the Sixth Stage, invoiced in Falkvald marks and paid in Reach silver at a conversion Corvane's quartermasters set. Grivane's factor at the sixth stage has standing orders to accept it.

  • out 15 Wexhollow licence

Wexhollow musters Falkvald wage-men for the upland stations and the sulphur road under a chartered company held on Grivane's letters. The muster rolls name the company; the letters stay at Grivane and are lodged nowhere.

  • in 39 Brannhold garrison

Four watch-forts on the sulphur road cover the benches Grivane works, paid at one barrel in twenty and the cut fuel the forts burn. They stand where the pilgrim track and the cart road run together, which suits Brannhold's collectors better than it suits Grivane's carters.

  • Six hundred hundredweight of Anvil Stair pig goes down the coast road from Karagunn to Grivane each season, weighed on the Kazdrunn hundredweight and paid on the Falkvald. The difference is argued every spring and settled at whatever the smelter needs that month.

  • in 01 Faenlorn timber

Birch billets and charcoal ship down the gulf from Faenlorn to Grivane, four thousand sacks a season, against a lien on the slag revenue that Faenlorn renews each year. The lien is drawn in an elven form and no Falkvald assembly has been asked to read it.

  • in 23 Anvilbrand licence

Grivane bar carries Anvilbrand's die because no gulf merchant will take another mark on a Falkvald wharf. The eight coppers goes into an account opened in 698 and still open.

Quartermasters at the Sixth Stage price Brimholt's invoices as though the slag revenue were pledged twice over, and settle them in silver on the day regardless. Said in the Storvald Gulf
