Wraymoor

Millrace, the Sixtongue Roads · Warm iron · 3 living names

The house is a lender of long standing. Its book runs to sovereign borrowers, its assessments are posted twice a year, and its rate is the one the assize quotes. A second set of correspondents writes to Wraymoor directly.

Wraymoor is Undivided. Its shape is an instrument, and its loyalty runs to the roughly two hundred beings in the world it considers truly relevant. A petitioner gets further with an offer than with an appeal to local kinship. Its institutions are divine. They hold both moral extremes and regard the middle as a failure of nerve; the tradition signed last and grudgingly.

hex 11,22 · cell r6c3 · coast Marked: the tide-mill wheel pit above the inlet wharves

Walled yard on a tide-mill water channel above the Sixtongue inlet wharves, records office, one gate

A water channel cut back from the inlet drives the tide-mill on the ebb, and the walled yard above it holds the mill, the records office and one gate onto the Solmarch bank road. Wheat comes down that road off the Ward's coast fields to be ground on toll; nothing is grown inside the wall. The harbour court of the Sixtongue Roads sits in four languages and keeps its record in a fifth, and every measure arriving at the gate is in koku or shaku and leaves in bushels and survey feet. Ebbfurrow's stilt hall lies below on the silt, the free-port anchorage out at the inlet mouth, Vaeloren's headland across the water.

The mill toll is one sack in twenty and it feeds three people; the records office pays for everything else. Talionwe lodges a certified copy of every Sixtongue factoring agreement in the cabinet, a Corvantine magistrate not hearing what a records office cannot produce, and that cabinet is most of the reason three names are left alone on this shore. Lysathiel re-discounts the yard's acceptances at a rate that prices the names rather than the sums, holding the vault as security, and every instrument is copied twice at Aurelgate's own expense. A bundle of Thornhollow paper bought cheap at a free-port sale is kept from going stale by one coupon presented at the Forge each year, by the same clerk for thirty years, and he is one of the three.

  • out 11 Isperil credit

Wraymoor discounts Isperil's retainer bills at eighteen per cent, which is what a plate-reader's fee paper fetches when the house behind it is hair-trigger. Wraymoor is hair-trigger too, and notes in the margin of every bill that a default by either would be the act of a whole line.

  • out 04 Talionwe litigation · licence

Wraymoor advanced six hundred bars against two seasons of portage receipts, then took the second season's take when the first came in short. Talionwe is suing at the free ports over a pledge collected twice, and all three of Wraymoor's names are on the pleadings.

Talionwe lodges a certified copy of every Sixtongue factoring agreement at Wraymoor, since a Corvantine magistrate will not hear what a records office cannot produce, and Wraymoor keeps the Corvantine records office below the ridge. The fee is small, and that cabinet is most of the reason a house of three names is left alone on that shore.

  • out 16 Solmiryn credit

Wraymoor bought a bundle of Solmiryn paper cheap at a free-port sale and presents one coupon at the Forge every year to keep the claim from going stale. The same clerk has made the presentation for thirty years, and he is one of the three names at Wraymoor.

  • out · in 07 Thalassil grain · litigation

Thalassil buys its flour and its seed corn at Wraymoor's gate, a stilt hall on tidal silt growing reed and eels and no bread at all. Thalassil holds that the mill water channel took eleven acres of reed grazing when it was cut, and says so at the gate every time the toll is paid.

The Sixtongue harbour court has heard the water channel case in four languages and adjourned it in all of them. Wraymoor lodges a certified copy of the original grant at each sitting and Thalassil brings the men who can recite the reed beds as they stood, and the court's written record is kept in a fifth language neither house pleads in.

  • out 27 Quorravel grain

Hard bread for the pilot hulks is baked at Wraymoor and goes out with the casks of drinking water, four hundredweight a month in season. Wraymoor bills in coin and Quorravel pays in cargo, so the account is reconciled twice a year and comes out different every time.

  • in 75 Verrigan litigation

Verrigan endorsed Wraymoor's paper at the free ports and Wraymoor endorsed Verrigan's, and neither endorsement went to Ferrovane's records office. A bill came back last year, the records office will not hear either house on it, and two Corvantine counting houses are now suing each other in a court that sits in four languages.

  • in 53 Aldemarch grain

Wraymoor's tide-mill grinds the Ward's coast wheat on toll, one sack in twenty, and Aldemarch's carts come down the Solmarch bank because no other mill below the ridge will work to a survey measure. Wraymoor eats out of that toll and buys nothing it can avoid buying.

  • in 56 Lysathiel credit

Lysathiel re-discounts Wraymoor's acceptances at a rate that prices three names rather than the sum on the paper, and holds the records office's own vault as security. Wraymoor copies every instrument twice, once for the Corvantine records office and once for Lysathiel's clerks, and pays for both copies.

Factors below the ridge price Aurelgate's acceptances by whose copies are in the cabinet rather than by what the mill grinds. Said in the Sixtongue Roads
